Carolyn Curtis - Kids Can Sew® & Fashion Design
In the early 1980's, Carolyn Curtis, developed this out-of-the-ordinary system for her own sewing school. At the time no one thought that young children could use a sewing machine to sew their own clothes. Carolyn was about to prove them wrong!
She was motivated by three reasons. First, there were no sewing classes available for children. This presented a wonderful opportunity for her to teach the kids in her area how to sew.
Second, there were no ‘kid friendly’ patterns available anywhere. This was the beginning of her new found Program. She had no idea whatsoever that her ‘out-of-the-ordinary’ system for teaching kids to sew would generate the interest it did.
Third, with a growing family, she certainly could use additional discretionary income. She was pleasantly surprised when parents were willing to pay her to teach their children to sew using her newly invented system.
Pioneering the first program of its kind anywhere, more than a million children have learned to sew using Carolyn's system taught by a Kids Can Sew & Fashion Design Teacher in their area. Today hundreds of women have been able to start their own business using the Kids Can Sew method. •Carolyn Curtis is a professional pattern maker and has designed patterns for Simplicity Pattern Company in New York. • In the sewing industry Carolyn’s Kids Can Sew® Program started the revolution of teaching kids as young as six to sew using a sewing machine and the Kids Can Sew® patterns. Before she developed her system there were no classes or patterns available for young children to sew. • Carolyn is well known in the sewing industry and has given numerous lectures, demonstrations and seminars throughout the USA and in Canada promoting kids sewing. • Has designed sewing projects for the New York based Home Sewing Association maintaining a wonderful and personal relationship with them. • Has trained hundreds of sewing machine dealers on how to teach women the business of teaching kids to sew. • Has been a guest speaker and appeared on several television and radio talk programs throughout the country.
